Switzerland Tdh campaigns to stop corporal punishment on children
15 Aug 2008
Lausanne, Switzerland: As one of the leading organizations in child relief issues in Switzerland, ‘Terre des hommes – Child Relief’ prompts the Swiss government to adopt non-violent educative methods within the country. Tdh suggests an amendment to article 302 of Swiss Civil Law in order to formally ban corporal punishment on children.
At the moment, in Switzerland one child out of 5 aged under 2 and a half years old is subjected to corporal violence. Moreover one child out of 100 is regularly beaten with an object. Smacks, corporal punishment and abuses are often committed within the family circle.
According to Sandra Imhof, Tdh Program Officer for Switzerland, “a non-violent education doesn’t mean an education without limits; it will gradually change parents behavior towards their children”.
