‘Reuters’ reports that nine Romanian children were taken into care after a baby died in an unheated house, after the Siberian front strengthened its hold over Eastern Europe. “These children were already suffering from malnutrition. When the cold hit, their situation went from bad to worse to catastrophic”, a spokesman told Reuters. As many as 15,000 children in Iasi may be at risk from the cold and a further six children had been taken into care, the spokesman said.
