International Launch of "Wandering young people: the conditions for return" 26 March, Brussels
Project : RETURN 5 Mar 2009
Brussels, Belgium: The European Forum for Urban Safety together with Terre des hommes – Child Relief (member of TDHIF) are organising a seminar for launching the new publication: “Wandering young people: the conditions for return”. This feasibility study on the reintegration of isolated minors victims of trafficking is based on 600 study cases in Albania, Austria, France, Italy, Romania and Spain. The launch will take place at the city hall of Brussels, from 09.30 to 17.00 (read the updated program here).
This 18-month project, financed by the European Commission, is the result of a convergence of interests and questionings between local authorities – represented by the European Forum for Urban Safety and, within it the cities of Turin and Barcelona, to which was later added the Land of Tyrol – and associations specialised in taking care of and following up foreign minors, represented by the Jeunes Errants association (based in Marseilles) and Terre des hommes (regional child protection project based in Budapest). This sharing of expertise and know-how was enriched by the analysis contributed by Dr Brenda Oude Breuil of the University of Utrecht.
The main characteristic of this study is the synthesis of public and private service providers’s approaches working with children either in countries of origin or in countries of transit and destination. It is a common effort to perceive the reality of the migrant children at risk of exploitation and trafficking through the full path of their movement within Europe.
The recommendations (10 pages) are organised around 3 main lines:
- Case-by-case treatment,
- The support of multidisciplinary work and cooperation of players,
- The development of transnational strategies and solidarities of responsibility.
