In 2007, The Soros Foundation initiated a research program dealing with one of the most important and impactful effects of external labor migration, namely its impact on the children left behind. This paper is an attempt at an in-depth analysis of the data gathered through the opinion poll, and also of the more detailed data obtained through the local interviews that were conducted as part of the program.
