Protect Children in Tourism: A new awareness campaign from UNWTO and partners PDF Print E-mail

As tourism across the globe reaches unprecedented levels, so does the need to eradicate child labour and sexual exploitation in the global travel industry -- that is why the United Nations body for tourism is taking action now. A new awareness campaign from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the International Task Force to Protect Children in Tourism will raise the profile of children who are exploited.The Organization is encouraging the industry to enforce its Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, and protect children against harm.The campaign stresses that it is unacceptable for the industry and the travelling public to tolerate exploitation of children in all its forms.

[Switzerland] 5'000 children will work in the streets on November 20th PDF Print E-mail

In 200 action points in Switzerland, 5'000 schoolchildren and members of youth organizations will shine the shoes of passers-by, sell newspapers or talk about children's rights on November 20th. Tdh's goodwill ambassador Jean-Marc Richard will meet some of them, easily recognizable in their orange caps.

[Global Campaign] Help stop sexual exploitation of children PDF Print E-mail

Every year thousands of European tourist travel to countries in Asia, South America, Africa and Southeast Europe to have sex with minors. Although it is illegal, hardly any of the offenders get caught. This has to stop. European Liberals and Democrats launched the campaign www.sayno.eu to end child sex tourism.

Terre des hommes supports this initiative focusing on investigation and prosecution of sex offenders while protecting victims. With your signature you will express your concerns about sexual exploitation of children all over the world. The petition will be offered to politicians during the World Conference in Rio de Janeiro November 2008.

[Switzerland] New Juvenile Criminal Law: Judges and prosecutors satisfied PDF Print E-mail

Comment: According to 'Swissinfo', the new juvenile criminal Law which was implemented in the beginning of the last years is working well. The Swiss Society for Juvenile Criminal Law (SSDPM) is satisfied after having carried out several experimentations. Dieter Hebeisen, Director of the SSDPM, acknowledges that a few modifications are likely to be made. On the one hand, he urges the legislator to subject a young to an educative action until 25 years old instead of 22 at the moment. On the other hand, he asks for custudy in case of major offense.

[Georgia] Tdh is launching an emergency project in Tbilisi and Gori PDF Print E-mail

Tdh's emergency unit is launching a project in Georgia. Some 2'000 displaced people will benefit from the creation of children-friendly spaces and psychosocial support to families. The Tdh exploratory mission shed light on the difficult conditions of 120'000 internally displaced people gathered in shelters. The Swiss NGO is collaborating with the psychology faculty of Tbilisi and with georgian psychologists to provide assistance to children and families. A team of social workers and a group of forty volunteers, recruited within the displaced population, will provide psychosocial support to children in need and their parents.
