Comment: A news relayed by 'Reuters', reported
that The NGOs Federation for Children (FONPC) recently achieved a report about
the respect for children's right in Romania. This report was drafted by
86 NGOs working in the field of human right's and was send to the United
Nations commission on the Rights of Children, in Geneva. It is an alternative report
to a Romanian's government one which the FONPC says failed to offer an
effective analysis of the progresses made in the application of children's
rights laws in this country. The text identifies some issues like difficulties
in providing services, discrimination of some categories of the population and
a lack of extra-curricular activities.

Comment: The 'Times of Malta' reported that a Romanian man wanted in his country for human trafficking and paedophilia was arrested on Tuesday night in Malta. He is suspected of having helped women to travel to the Netherlands where they thought they would work as dancers, but were actually forced into prostitution. Some of them were minors.

Comment: a recent report from the Romanian ministry of education is explained by 'Nine O'clock', underlining alarming figures about school drop out. While the number of pupils is rising, the news indicates that "the rate of participation of the population aged 5-29 to all the levels of education continues to place Romania on the last place compared to the other European countries, except for Bulgaria."

Comment: 'Nine O'Clock News' reports that the Council of Europe Information Office in Romania launched a pan-European campaign against corporal punishment of children in Romania. The initiative wants to achieve full prohibition of corporal punishment of children, promiting positive parenting and raising awareness of children's rights throughout Europe.

Craiova - Romania: This year a total number of 653 children directly took part to the summer activities organized together with local schools in 6 communities in the County of Dolj (Craiova) during July and August. The summer camps were organized twice a week in each community. The figures of this year's camps reflected that at least 69% of the children directly assisted by Tdh during the year took part to these activities. The Summer Camps proposed games, drawings, trips, partys and a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities.
This activities were supervised by 18 animators who were selected after
a training in June. Tdh organized this training together with the
Romanian NGO SOS Satele Coopilor. Both NGO's provided the animators
with techniques and methods of animation for children.
